Deniz Defne Acerol

Born in Hong Kong in 1990, Deniz graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Painting Department in 2013. In the same year, she opened her first solo exhibition and subsequently participated in numerous fairs and exhibitions.

She has been working on various designs with her collectors for some time. In addition to being a painter, she has also done graphic designs in different fields such as posters, album covers, wine labels, scarves, and wallpapers. She continues her work in her studio in Istanbul.

Deniz, who loves storytelling and creating imaginary places, approaches the present with mythological images using references from art history. She processes her fictional scenes with a rich narrative language using methods she discovered after much technical research. She prefers to work with water-based materials that are most suitable for her detail-oriented character.

Influenced by her birth in Hong Kong, Deniz has a patterned and ethereal understanding of painting characteristic of Far Eastern art. Based on the engraving technique, she has brought a drawing method called "hatching," used by old masters, to the present day. By combining this method with watercolor, she produces illustrative paintings with an intense technical background.
