Deniz Defne Acerol

Born in Hong Kong in 1990, Deniz graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Painting Department, in 2013. In the same year, she opened her first solo exhibition and has since participated in numerous fairs and exhibitions.

She has been working with her collectors on various designs for some time. In addition to being a painter, she has also created graphic designs in different fields such as posters, album covers, wine labels, scarves, and wallpapers. She continues her work in her studio in Istanbul.

Deniz, who loves to tell stories and create imaginary spaces, approaches the present day with mythological imagery, drawing references from art history. She processes her imaginary scenes with a rich narrative language using methods she discovered after extensive technical research. She prefers to work with water-based materials, which are best suited to her detail-oriented character.

Influenced by her birth in Hong Kong, Deniz has a patterned and ethereal painting style characteristic of Far Eastern art. Starting from the etching technique, she has brought a drawing method called hatching, used by old masters, into the present day. By combining this method with watercolor, she produces illustrative paintings with an intensive technical background.
